Cure Dog Barking

I’ve always thought that dogs were practically wild animals, and that they should be given a great amount of room in their behavior.  However, my neighbors do not agree with me.  You see, we reside in a quiet suburban area, and wild behavior isn’t actually appreciated all that much.  Even barking gets on folk’s nerves, and when I first had my dog I have the cops called on me many times before I realized how easily people got irritated around here.  That is why I got my dog a dog bark collar.  Although they seem like a particularly cruel way to treat an animal, I was under the impression that dog bark collars were better than losing your dog due to too many complaints.

There are many different sorts of dog bark collars.  Some of them are electrical shock collars which give dogs a shock each time they make too much noise.  Other dog bark collars claim to be more tolerant.  Instead of stunning the dogs, they give them a jolt of citronella each time they bark.  The strong odour of the citronella stops the dogs from barking temporarily, and if they start again they’ll get another blast in the face.  All of these dog bark collar designs seem pretty cruel to me.  Although some dog bark collars are rather worse than others, not one of them seem especially kind.  Nonetheless, I knew I had to get my dog and anti barking collar or else I would lose him.  The police were already threatening.
When I started looking at dogs bark collars, I realized how many tools there were to train your dog.  There were invisible fence collars that would essentially train your little dog to not go outside of a certain area without you with it.  Fundamentally, every time the dog would go outside a certain prearranged fence, The dog bark collars would go off, giving it some type of upsetting stimuli.  Either the collar would shock it, squirt it with citronella, or subject it to an intensely high-pitched and annoying noise.  Either way, the average dog would learn fast what the bounds were.

I decided to stick with the basic dog bark collars.  I hadn’t really needed to teach my dog not to bark, but I certainly didn’t need to subject it to even more needless lessons.  No bark collars were the minimum that I could get away with, so I decided to go for those.

Another method of preventing dog barking is by the use of DAP (Dog Appeasing Pheromones) which is used as a spray, impregnated collar or plug-in diffuser (similar to an air freshener). DAP is  not a drug and therefore a safer alternative to the use of drugs. DAP products can be bought online from the DAP-Direct website.

Dog Barking for Good Reasons

Last night my neighbor’s dogs kept me awake with their constant barking. There was a full moon out, and so were the area’s coyotes-yipping and howling and disturbing all the dogs that live around her. My own dogs barked when the coyotes first started in, but stayed quiet the rest of the night after I quieted them with a command. Unfortunately for me, my neighbors must be the world’s deepest sleepers, because I have never heard them quiet their dogs at night.

As I thought about the all night barking, it was obvious that even though dogs may start their barking for a good reason sometimes, when it is out of control it is a problem just like any other form of barking.Really, the problem lay more with their owner’s lack of respect for everyone else in the neighborhood than with the dogs themselves.

As a dog owner, it is up to you to be responsible enough to keep any type of barking, whether it starts for a good reason or not, under control. There are some very good reasons my dogs will bark, and I would not want to change that.

Check out these more acceptable reasons for your dog to start his barking. You can see that these reasons for barking are just part of a dog’s communication and are not derived from any behavior problems.

  • The most obvious good reason your dog will bark is when he wants to warn you that something (maybe another dog or a stranger) is approaching. When your dog does this type of barking, it is to warn his master, and this is a good thing you won’t want to stop. Given that, you should still be able to quiet him with a command to stop. For example, when someone parks in front of your house, and your dog warns you about it, you should be able to quiet him once you see the visitor is not a threat. On the other hand, if it is someone you want to discourage from coming onto your property (for example, maybe some over-zealous religious types), well then, you can let the barking continue a little longer. Protection barking is “good barking”-just make sure you can always control and stop the barking quickly with a command.
  • Another common reason your dog will bark is because he is happy and excited about something. When I play with my dogs, they bark at me and at each other-but all in fun. That is just the dog’s way of saying he is having a great time, and wants more of the same. I only quiet my dogs if one of them gets to barking excessively from over-excitement, or wanting more attention.  Some playful barking is jut fine, but when one of them gets too into the barking, that has to be stopped. That’s because one consequence of too much barking when playing is that it can become a habit for your dog, and at that point it is a problem-so try to keep the barking while playing at a reasonable level.
  • Often dogs will start barking when their master comes home. This is a very common since your dog is excited to see you again, and this is acceptable as long as the barking is very brief. I like to be greeted at the gate by my dogs, and I don’t mind a couple greeting barks at all. If the dogs keep the barking up ,even after you’ve greeted them back, then it is not such a “good barking” anymore. This barking is a problem if it is excessive, and should be controlled.
  • Another common time that your dog might bark is when he wants you to play with him.  However, some dogs will try to use their barking as a way of bullying you into playing with them. My dog had me pretty well trained through her bullying, so I know what this is like first hand. Actually, you should be the one to initiate the play or at least decide when to play. If your dog does not see you as the boss of the relationship, all your training attempts will be made very difficult. You have to be the Alpha dog in the relationship between you and your dog, so don’t let your dog’s invitation to play become a bullying act.

I think you’d agree the above barking behaviors are not troublesome-unless they are out of control. However, most of the other reasons dogs  bark create a disturbance and should be corrected.

5 Tips for Stopping Dog Barking Problems

Some types of dog barking, for instance- when your dog barks to warn you about a stranger, or when he is greeting or playing with you and barks that aren’t a problem and don’t need correction-maybe just a command to stop if if gets out of hand. On the other hand, if your dog barks for any of the reasons listed in below, you will need to work with your dog to correct these barking problems. The problem of excessive barking can be corrected, but it does take some work on your behalf.

Here are several examples of common bad barking behaviors-use whatever tips work for you, depending on which of these dog barking problems your dog has.

  • In order to solve this problem of dogs starting up with their barking due to a visual stimulus, try to find a way to remove the view out of your yard. If you have a fenced in area with no view to the outside, this would be the ideal place to move your noise-offender. However, if your yard has no area with a solid fenced area, maybe you can restrain your dog with a lead in an area of the yard with no outer view. If your dog stays indoors, keep the curtains closed to block his view.
  • One method of solving the problem of your dog barking in response to neighborhood dogs, is by taking the matter into your own hands-literally. For instance, as soon as your dog begins to bark, put your hand over his mouth and hold his mouth shut until he has completely stopped resisting. Your dog won’t love this, so it will probably be necessary to use your other hand to hold onto your dog’s collar to prevent him from running off. Another good trick that will startle him out of barking is to spray him in the face with a small blast of water from a little spray bottle. A can of pebbles is also good for startling your dog into  stopping the barking for a bit. These tricks all work to temporarily stop the barking for the time you are using them. While you do any of these tricks to stop him from barking, you must also tell your dog something like “quiet” or “no barking” to verbally imprint the command to your dog. The goal of the training is for your dog to stop barking just by using your vocal command.
  • Correcting the problem of a dog barking too much due to stress and insecurity will require you to give your dog lots more attention by exercising him, playing with him and training him. By keeping your dog more active and happy, his anxiety level should go down enough to alleviate his problem barking.
  • Once again, to correct a bored or lonely dog’s barking issues, will mean giving him much more exercise, playing and training.  Obviously if your dog is left alone most of the time and doesn’t get enough playtime and attention from you he is more likely to have this type of barking problem. It is wise to give your dog at least the hour and a half minimum daily exercise time he needs.
  • Correct the problem of your own dog barking for attention by saying a firm “no” and then turning your back to him and ignoring him for a few minutes. You should not let your dog get away with bullying you. The reason for this, besides the annoyance of a steadily barking dog, is that you are the Alpha dog. You cannot be the Alpha dog and get your dog’s respect if he is able to bully you through his barking. You must be seen as the Alpha dog in order to be able to successfully train your dog.

In addition to these correction techniques, you can find some bark prevention collars available at your pet store. The first of these prevention collars is a Citronella oil collar-this works by spraying a mist of citronella oil into your dogs face when it is activated by the dog’s barking. The idea behind the second type of prevention collar is that it produces a very high pitched sound when your dog barks . Each of these collars works to stop the dog from barking due to his aversion to either the smell or the noise.

A third type of prevention collar that is available in the store is the electric shock variety of collar. I won’t use this type of collar on my own pets, so I won’t recommend it to you, either.Although I have read and heard it is quite effective for stopping behavior problems such as barking, I would rather stick with more humane methods of correction with the dogs I love.

Please Make The Dog Stop Barking NOW!

Does your dog or even worse, your neighbor’s dog bark all the dang time?
If so it’s pretty darn easy to reach your whit’s end rather quickly.

After a while you really don’t care why the little nincompoops doing it, you just want to make the barking stop. Does that sound about right to you?

Trust me, I know what you’re going through all too well.
How would I know these feelings of frustration so intimately?

Simple, my wife got a small Poodle and the little begger absolutely would not stay quiet for 10 minutes. I swear, if an ant walked across the driveway he would carry on for 15 to 20 minutes strait. I was just about out of my mind with the little loudspeaker.

Now, please don’t get me wrong, I love animals and I especially love dogs (cat’s I could live without). I don’t know about you personally, but I like well behaved dogs.
So, not really wanting to incur my wife’s wrath for suggesting Fido be relocated several States away just to make the barking stop, I started researching to find a solution or at least find some options and find them fast.

Here are a few of the things to stop a dog barking  that I discovered:

All the books said “You need to find out why the dog is barking in the first place”. And I’m thinking yeah, right! I don’t care why the little dim bulb’s carrying on, just make him stop.

But I do have to agree, there is proper barking and bad barking. So when training your dog it is important to teach your dog the difference between nuisance barking and good barking (like if  it’s 2 am and I’m snoring keep quiet, but if you see a guy with a mask and a sack, Bark!).

As it turns out there is actually a lot of different kinds of barking, there’s reactive, territorial, separation anxiety, fear and warning barking. And without becoming a Sigmund Freud for Animal Planet tm I really couldn’t tell you which was which.

I did find a few things that actually worked really well. What the heck it only took 5 hours of reading & video’s and it cost more than the dog did to buy all the books to find one that worked.

But here’s one of the tips that it said that worked really good. Every time the dog barks give it a piece of bacon with 1/2 a Prozac stuck into it (ok, ok, so that was my solution and not exactly what the book said, but the dog liked it!) Just kidding!

No really, what the books all said was give the dog an alternate outlet. And because it might actually take me an hour and a half to watch the TV show 60 Minutes, I’m thinking, alternate outlet, WHAT! they want me to plug the little begger into a wall socket?

Well, turns out I was wrong, they meant every time it starts yapping give him a soft toy and toss it around for a second so he gets the idea to play with it. This way when the dog begins feeling anxiety, nervousness or separation it will search for the toy and find comfort in it.

There are a ton more tips that I got at => http://stopdogbark.tripleyourinfo.com/

But I sure hope this one helps, it worked for me a whole lot better than the Prozac and at a buck a pill that stuff gets kinda spendy after a bit.

How To Stop Your Dog’s Bad Barking Behaviors – Forever!

Excessive barking is the plague of dog owners everywhere. Depending on which breed of dog it is, will determine the amount it is predisposed to barking behavior. It’s very frustrating, to say the least, and one of the top reasons that dogs are abandoned or dropped off at animal shelters.

Stopping bad barking behaviors is actually quite easy to accomplish. First and foremost it is critical that you note you will be unable to cease your dog’s barking behavior totally. This is genetically implanted in them and is therefore quite natural. If it is a quiet life you are after, away form dogs barking, then you should be looking elsewhere for a pet. Certain situations such as being frightened, scared or meeting other dogs will cause your dog to bark. Dont prevent your dog from carrying on with these behaviors.

Some owners attempt this through the use of shock or spray collars. This type of device is nasty for the dog. The collar picks up on the bark and gives your dog a quick shock. The makers of such collars would have you believe that the shock they provide is no more that what you would get from static in your car, this is simply untrue. Serious burns have been known to occur from the energy surges given out by faulty collars.

A much more effective way to stop bad barking behaviors is through simple distraction. For instance, if a strange person is invited in to your house and your dog constantly barks at them, state the command “no” in an assertive tone and distract their mind by giving them something. It’s important that you do not yell at or punish your dog for barking. This can be very confusing for them. You must be consistent. At every occurrence of your dog barking when you do not want it to you should give the same reprimand following by the same distraction.

Praise them when they play with their toy instead of barking, in a light and excited tone of voice. As it is genetically implanted for your dog to want to please you they will begin to understand what is required of them and keep quiet in anticipation of making you happy. Continue on with the reward and reprimand until your dog forms a habit of knowing when barking is acceptable and when you do not want it.

How To Train Your Dog To Stop Barking

One of the biggest problems every dog owner has to go through is learning how to stop excessive dog barking. It's the sort of problem that will annoy you, your neighbors, and it could threaten your dogs life. What can a frustrated dog owner such as yourself do? All you have to do to train your dog is have a better understanding of why your dog barks and what it needs.

Why Dogs Bark

A dog will bark for all sorts of different reasons. It may bark because it is bored, wants outside, someone is at the door, and who knows what else. The real point is to find what the cause is. Once you know why your dog is barking it makes it much easier to train the dog and to address the situation.

For example, if your dog is barking because it wants outside the simple solution may be to let it outside. Once that is over your dog can relax and stop it's barking. Of course it could be barking at something outside. But the point of this is for you to address the situation head on.

Tactics For Stopping Dog Barking

There are plenty of different training techniques that you can try. One of the more common tactics now of days is to simply use a stop barking collar. This works fairly well, but if not used correctly you may only harm your dog. For example, if your dog is barking out of boredom you wont be fixing the problem behind your dogs barking. Any dog that is bored needs to spend more time on walks, more time playing, and more time from you. You don't want your dog to be constantly shocked just because it is bored.

One of the best ways you can stop your dog from barking is to make a noise that distracts your dog from what it is barking at. Some people like to do this by putting something in a cane or bottle and then shake it. It might be just as effective to blow a whistle or squirt water towards it.

Barking At Your Neighbors

Allot of dogs bark at the neighbors. If your dog does this then you should try to introduce your dog to your neighbor. As your dog gets to know your neighbor he or she is less likely to bark at them. Just make sure that your dog is not being teased by the neighbors.

As you can see learning how to stop your dog from barking is something that you can do. All it takes is a little time and patience.

How To Stop Your Dog From Barking

One of the most common problems that people have with training their dogs is getting it to stop barking. Barking is a serious problem for your dog and it will only get worse the older your dog gets. In fact, some adult dogs are almost impossible to train once this has become a habit. So, the key is to get them trained before it becomes a habit.

In this article were going to take a look at some of the things that you can do to control dog barking.

The first step to learning how to stop dog barking is finding out why your dog is barking. Sometimes this isn't as obvious as you might think. You might have a nasty neighbor who likes to tease your dog. A large number of dog owners have no clue that their dog is doing so much barking when they are not around. There may be some neighbors kids who walk by everyday and throw stones and scream at your dog. There are times when you will have to think outside the box.

Once you know what is causing your dog to bark you can go about training your dog. There are some cases where training won't even be needed. For the examples above you would need to move your dog inside to stop your annoying neighbors from bothering your dog.

Another very common reason dogs bark is out of boredom. This is often when your dog just keeps barking and barking for no apparent reason. When your dog gets bored like this take him/her for a long walk. If the dog is still barking when you come back, then you may have a different problem all together.

If your are really stuck with this barking problem you may want to consider some devices or collars. There are many dog owners who hate the idea of using a shock collar, but a shock collar will not do harm to your dog. The key is to use them correctly. You may want to consider getting a collar that lets you adjust the shocking. This makes sure that your dog will not be harmed in anyway.

Always remember to define why your dog is barking first. This will make the training allot easier. There are lots of dog owners out there that have no clue why their dog is even barking all the time. This often leads to a very flustered dog and owner. Yes, the barking could be as much of a problem for your as it is for you.
