Dove Cresswell’s ‘Puppy and Dog Training Online’ Review

Dove  Cresswell, at just 25 yrs old, has already got a pretty impressive list of achievements to her name…

Currently she works in Hollywood as a professional dog trainer on films,  TV programmes, and on commercial shoots. For over ten years now Dove has worked with dogs, but also has experience in training other animals as well, including reptiles, wild cats, birds and even some insects! During filming Dove has to achieve fast results. She manages to deliver the same speedy results through her popular on-line dog training course.

If you would like more information about this online course, why not take a look at my in depth review at Review of Puppy and Dog Training Online

Dove Cresswells Puppy and Dog Training Online course is divided into 7 separate sections, including ‘Dog Obedience’, ‘Walking on a Leash’, ‘Teaching Recall’, and ‘Good Dog Manners’. The course comes as an audio/video download, giving you access to the course material instantly once you have completed your online purchase. One of the great benefits of the audio/video format is that you get to study and imitate the precise hand gestures, body language and tone of voice  that Dove Cresswell uses. Observing and listening to her in action makes copying her style far easier than if you were just reading instructions from a book.

Dove has said previously that she feels that making dog training fun and exciting for your dog is crucial to your chances of success. When trying to correct an unacceptable behaviour, Dove Cresswell maintains that you should demonstrate the correct behaviour, and then give your dog praise
when it does as you ask. She does not like to use equipment that works on the theory of negative reinforcement, such as barking collars, preferring instead to use a more humane approach.

Who’s Dove Cresswell?

Dove is a professional Hollywood North dog trainer with an outstanding career as a dog trainer for movies, television and commercials.

Although she is only 25 years old, she has over ten years of experience in training dogs of all sizes and from many different breeds. In addition, she has trained other animals species including rodents, deer, birds, cougars, and large reptiles.

Dove is used to having to train animals for movies extremely quickly. You can expect similarly fast results with her online dog training course.

What is Included?

The online dog training course, which is audio and video format, offers the following 7 lessons:

  • Puppy House Training / Potty Training
  • Dog Obedience Training
  • Crate Training
  • Walking Politely on a Leash: The Informal Heel
  • The Recall
  • Good Puppy & Dog Manners
  • Special Dog Tricks

Useful advice for both large and small dog breeds is included in the puppy house training section.

What I Particularly Liked

The lessons have a quick, “get to the point fast” and fun approach. The correct methods for dog training are clearly articulated in the well-illustrated slides and narration. A benefit of this multimedia format for dog training is that you can hear the tone of voice that should be used for commands and you can see the correct stance for both you and your dog. This is where this online dog training course has an advantage over an e-book.

Although this program is not as extensive as some of the dog training e-books in areas such as dog behavior and specific dog breed information, it is full of informative and clearly articulated dog obedience and housetraining advice for dog owners.

Dove presents a very interesting and common-sense perspective on paper training. Dove is of the opinion that paper training is confusing for dogs and should not be used. She explains in a very knowledgeable and easily understood way how puppies can be trained to always eliminate outside.

Extra Bonuses

You will be able to e-mail Dove with your own dog behavior issues once you have bought the course:

  • Teach your dog to fetch
  • Train your dog to play soccer
  • Train your dog to play hide ‘n seek
  • Information on dog sports
  • Choosing the right toys for your dog
  • Earning your dog’s respect
  • Choosing the right dog food and treats

In Summary

At first, I was quite taken aback that only seven lessons were offered in this first rate course; once I actually listened to the lessons and discovered just how much information was offered in the course, I quickly changed my opinion. I enjoyed the multimedia format of this online dog training course; so much so that I wished it would have been longer. The easily understood lessons allow you copy the techniques and successfully train your dog like a professional dog trainer.

The one downside of this program is that it can only be accessed over the internet so anyone without an internet connection cannot view it.  Because of this, I have given it a rating of 4 1/2 stars. If the course was also offered as an e-book, I would have gladly given it 5 stars.

This course would be perfect for all dog owners wanting a first rate dog training guide, however, I feel that it is particularly appealing to people who find ebooks boring.  So you know what to expect , you are invited to view a sample lesson before you buy the course.

The quality of Dove Cresswell’s course is first rate and I strongly recommend it to all dog owners: Dove Cresswell.

Dove Cresswell – Training Dogs in Films

One of the most interesting dog trainers around is Dove Cresswell. Why? Because she works in television and films training animals to perform according to the script. She’s worked on various films including Space Buddies, The X Files: I Want to Believe, Cats and Dogs 2, Saved! and Sam’s Lake. She’s also worked on the television programs such as Romeo, Behind the Camera: Charlie’s Angels, and Cougar Crossings.

It’s not just dogs that she’s trained. She’s also trained large reptiles, cougars, rodents, birds, cockroaches and deer. She’s trained all kinds of dog breeds and all sizes. She can train dogs up to Master’s level in the Agility sport. For a twenty-five year old, I think that’s pretty impressive.

Her first foray into dog training was with her own labrador puppy which she took for dog obedience classes. Then, in her back yard, she spent hours teaching tricks and coaching her dog through an obstacle course.

She was a volunteer at the {Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals|SPCA}. By 17 she had a paid staff position at an animal hospital after she had volunteered there from the age of 16.

She did a BA in Science-Biology and got into films by chance working on a docu-drama Cougar Crossings where she proved she could work with young cougars.

At present she volunteers with That’ll Do Border Collie Rescue. She has three dogs of her own – a Border Collie, an Australian Shepherd, and a mini Poodle x.

If you’re concerned that animals {are mistreated|don’t enjoy their time} on film sets, Dove makes it quite clear that they do enjoy making films and that there’s lots of fun in between takes! In USA and Canada, all animal trainers in films and television are watched by the American Humane Association.

If you want to get your dog into films, your dog has to be very well trained. Dove looks for dogs that compete in Agility or Obedience because they’re already well trained.

Dove has worked with several top dog trainers and taken the most effective methods out of all of them. From all her knowledge and experience she put together her own dog training course. It is based upon the same methods she uses to coach animals for their film roles. You can’t afford to waste time on the film set, so you can be sure that her methods are very effective.
