It is just a fact that that all doggies will chew on something in their life-time. But is it too much chewing behavior that for our sake’s, we need to do something about. What can we do about it?

It is crucial that we also understand that sometimes the chewing is a result of stress – usually from being left alone for too long.  To remedy this situation requires us to learn a few things.  It is really us that needs the training, not the dog.  What do ya know?

How To Stop Dog Chewing:

His environment is everything, so you gotta kinda doggy proof your house somewhat. Consider dogs on the same caliber of destruction as a small child and proof the house with that mindset. Easy!

Make fun chew toys always easily accessible. And keep fresh water out frequently – it’s easy to work up a deadly thirst when you’re a dog! Training your dog is all about technique and using your head to think through problem behavior.

Keep your treasured belongings way out of reach of the rascal. Any item that you need intact could be: socks and shoes, stuffed animals and other kids toys, hats, magazines, TOILET PAPER ROLLS, and such. And make sure to tuck away any electrical wires so these don’t get ruined and your doggy doesn’t get hurt.

And please don’t just leave him to his own devices in your house while you are out for long periods. You are just asking for it unless you doggy proof it and maybe section off a sufficiently large ’safe’ area.

Be sure that when you are giving her chew toys that they do NOT look like household items like shoes? It will cause her to chew your actual shoes.

As hinted at above, dog proof the house and have special areas sectioned off like the kitchen if it is roomy enough. Please leave him a cushion to lie on as lying on the floor is cold for us, and so, it’s cold for our dogs too.

And just one crucial pointer, nobody enjoys being left alone for long durations and no dog does either. Please get him a friend if you need to be away a lot.

More Ways We Stop All This Chewing:
If you catch your dog chewing one of your beloved belongings, use the interrupt and redirect method. If you do this everytime without freaking out, your pup will learn soon!

So, interrupt her when you catch her.  Say ‘Nope! to let her know you don’t want her to chew that item.  It is essential that you don’t use his name so she doesn’t start associating the name with bad times.
