One infamous Puggle trait that can easily take the fun out of Puggle ownership is a dog given to snatching things from somewhere in the house and nibbling on them. In this puggle training article, lets go over how most Puggle owners get their dogs to overcome this unwanted behavior.

One thing a clueless Puggle owner can do is to initially keep the offending dog on a leash (for Puggle training purposes) inside the house. This way, sneaking off and chewing on stuff is curtailed. When the dog tries to go for no-touch objects, it needs to be told “No!”, then given the corrective tug, plus a more appropriate toy to use. Things like furniture may need to be applied with bitter apple spray, or some very spicy food sauce that will not stain the furnishings. But if you as owner will be out of the home for some time, do not readily give the dog the helm of the house. It is also important to invest time and effort in crate training as early as possible; this way, the dog learns to feel safe and secure in its own space, while you feel more confident leaving the dog at home.

Most veteran Puggle owners indeed warn that stealing to get attention and toy-eating is a Puggle “thing.” Squeaky toys in particular hypnotize them. Bones, by the way, are also a favorite. But there are actually some Puggles quite smart enough to simply drop at a command whatever they picked up. Still another treat you can try to wean them away from destructive chewing is to give them ice cubes, which seem to have the effect of soothing their gums.

To end, if there is a time in the puppy’s life that it will chew the most, it would be when it is teething at four to twelve months. Keep plenty of safe toys all over the house, and all over means literally all over. You may have to put up with bumping simultaneously into two or three things at any time, but the dog chewing on a toy is vastly more preferable to having it, say, make an attempt on your clothes or documents.
