My cat just found out that he can use the doggy door. And we are afraid he will run away. What can we do to allow the dogs outside while keeping the cat inside. I would like to keep the doggy door functioning but get the cat to not use it. How can i do this???

Only thing you can do if you want to keep the doggie door is everytime you see it trying to go outside scold it and hope it learns that it is bad. Chances are tho it will be easier just to close the doggie door and let the dogs out when they need it. cats are very hard to train espically with something like that.

When I dont want my cat to go somewhere in the house I spray him with a spray bottle of water just a little spray and he gets the picture and after a few times stops going there…

Put spicy leaves or something at least spicy around there, cats I don’t think like it.

I haven’t had any luck in that area! We put up a cat fence to keep the cats in the yard.
search cat fence and you’ll find many different kinds.
I can’t remember where we got ours, but so far no escapes!!

If your cat runs away then he didn’t want to be with you.

may have to replace the doggy door with one that has to be opened with a special sensor that the dog wears around its neck. check your local pet store and if they don’t have them try pet edge, ryans pet supplies or care a lot. they are online stores and also send out catalogs. i know i have seen them in there

You could get one of those doors that has a sensor on it so that only certain things can get through. The dog would wear the sensor on his color and since your cat doesn’ t have one it couldn’t get through. This also prevents wild animals from coming inside your house.

You can get pet doors that have a locking mechanism that is opened by a transmitter worn on the dog’s collar. That way, the door will only open for the dog. Your cat won’t get out, and raccoons won’t get in.
